Dos and Don'ts (culture)

Do dress modestly if you are a female and men do not wear shorts

Do greet people with big smile. Handshake with ladies should be avoided.

Do bargain with half price from roadside sellers but not in shops with fixed price display.

Do make sure to remove footwear when entering temple or mausoleum.

Do cover with travel insurance and exchange money only at authorized banks or exchangers

Do carry small hostess gifts when visiting homes
Don'ts

Do not offer to shake the hand of a person of the opposite sex unless they offer first.

Do not walk over books, papers/newspaper or touch with the feet as they are treated as the goddess of learning.

Do not use the same hand for eating and taking food from a dish on the table. Use a spoon.

Do not break temple rules when on a visit.

Do not touch anyone or give/receive with ones left hand. It is used for toilet business.

Do not drink alcohol or smoke in public.

Do not hunt, kill wildlife or hit a cow. It can cause trouble.

Do not discuss religion, make comments of ridicule or disrespect. People resent judgement.

Do not do any public preaching or distributing tracts. That activity is prohibited.

Do not try to explore Indian road yourself.

Do not hire any transportation from unlicensed operators.

Do not purchase any type of tickets from strangers or unauthorised agents. Avoid persistent touts.
