The United Kingdom is an island located in Europe and comprises of England, Scotland , Wales and Northern Ireland which is part of an adjoining island. Great Britain however is made up of just England Scotland and Wales. The United Kingdom is steeped in history and the population has become quite diverse over the years. These four nations with distinct history, culture, language and lifestyle have been united and now shares an economy, political system, the English language and similar lifestyle and has greatly influenced the world.

 

The landscape is made up of the flat lands of England and Northern Ireland, the mountains and hills of Wales and Scotland with several beautiful lakes.   • Do shake hands when greeting someone new. A kiss is reserved for friends and relatives. 

  • Do use the word 'cheers' commonly used for 'thank you' or 'goodbye.'

  • Do pay much attention to good table manners and etiquette.

  • Do wait until your host start eating or say you should, before you eat. 

  • Do be punctual or call if late. British people are time conscious.

  • Do stand in line if there is a queue and wait patiently for your turn. 'Queue jumping' is frowned upon.

  • Do drive on the left side of road.

  • Do stand on the right hand side of the underground tube escalator to allow others to walk on the left.

  • Do not shout or be loud in public.

  • Do not cross legs at the knees, the ankle is the proper way.

  • Do not be offended by British humor, it's customary.
